Lasta is an exciting arts programme curated by young people for young people in eight Nasc Network venues across Ireland

In a new innovative approach to programming, twenty-one young curators have been engaged by the Nasc venues to programme a festival of work for children and young people from 11th to 20th June 2021, delivering for the first time, a national arts programme curated entirely by young people.

Under the guidance of theatre artists Maisie Lee and Fionn Foley, these young people will work collaboratively to deliver an ambitious programme of work for young people across the country.

Featuring multiple disciplines and reflecting the diversity of modern Ireland, this pioneering project offers a unique opportunity to develop our future arts programmers and producers.

An Grianán’s young curators are Ailis Cross Gorman and Fergal Lonergan. As well as programming events especially for An Grianán, they will collaborate with the other young curators to help programme events to be shared across the eight partner venues. Fergal is a former member of An Grianán Youth Theatre and is currently studying Drama at Trinity College Dublin. Ailis is an award winning film artist from Inishowen with a BA in Creative Arts from Aberystwyth University. Find out more about our young curators here.

Background

Lasta has evolved from a young curators’ programme originally created by the Backstage Theatre in Longford in 2020. That project engaged four young curators with an aim of giving young people a voice in programming at the venue. Such was the success of the project that in 2021 it was decided to expand the festival across all eight venues in the Nasc Network.

As part of this project, our young curators will also deliver events for children during Cruinniú na nÓg which this year will take place on Saturday 12 June.

Lasta promise to be a fresh, fun, diverse, accessible and exciting festival of events. Watch this space for future updates.
