Overview
Matt Jennings lectures at the University of Ulster teaching performance skills and applied theatre. In this workshop he will look at professional approaches to acting and directing, including elements of the techniques developed by Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov and Augusto Boal. The workshop is aimed at people of any background or level of experience, from total beginners to experienced practitioners.
Matt will be guiding the class through a variety of games, relaxation exercises and team building activities. The group will have the opportunity to explore how to play actions and objectives, characterisation, the ‘magic if’, Forum Theatre, Image Theatre and voice work for the stage.
Matt has been a professional musician, actor, writer, director and drama facilitator for over twenty years.
Originally from Australia, he has also worked and performed in Ireland, the UK, Italy, Morocco and France. Based in Northern Ireland since 2002, Matt has worked extensively in the field of community drama throughout Ireland, developing projects with children, young people, people with learning difficulties, older people, cross-community groups and aspiring professional actors and directors.
Matt has also worked as Assistant Director on two of An Grianán in-house productions, the community plays The O'Neill and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Since September 2004, he has been a part-time lecturer at the University of Ulster teaching performance skills and applied theatre. He is currently completing a PhD on community drama in Northern Ireland.
