Roma Tomelty and Gordon Fulton star in 'That Woman at Rathard', Sam Hanna Bell's adaptation of his own famous novel December Bride.

Set at the beginning of the 20th century, it tells the story of servants Sarah Gomartin and her mother Martha who come to work for the Echlin family on a farm at Rathard.

Crisis arises when Andrew, the father, dies, and Sarah continues to live with the two brothers, with an increasingly complex relationship developing between them.

When she falls pregnant, she refuses to reveal which of the brothers is the father.

Presented by Belfast's Centre Stage Theatre Company, the cast also features Derek Lord (Best known as Sneddon in STV’s Take the High Road) in a guest appearance as Matt Crockart.

Actress and artistic director Roma Tomelty comes from one of Ireland's best known acting families - her father Joseph enjoyed a long career on stage and screen (his credits include the Titanic drama A Night to Remember and John Huston's Moby Dick) and her sister is the well known actress and writer Frances Tomelty.

Sam Hanna Bell (1909 - 1990) was one of the foremost literary figures in Ulster of his generation. A distinguished broadcaster and Features producer at the B.B.C., he wrote eight books, countless features for radio and television, and as editor of the Ulster Tatler’s ‘Literary Miscellany’, over one hundred short stories.

‘December Bride’ is his best known novel and was successfully filmed in 1992. ‘That Woman At Rathard’ was adapted by Sam Bell for the stage in 1955 - the only stage play he wrote - when it was first performed at the Group Theatre. It was staged successfully by the Lyric Theatre in 1965 and revived by Theatre Ulster in 1985 when it was directed by Frank McGuinness.
