Irish National Youth Pipe Band
Tickets: €10
The National Youth Pipe Band (NYPB) of the Irish Pipe Band Association was founded just three years ago and this is its third concert in that time.

The NYPB is the main project of the IPBA's College of Piping and Drumming and is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland.
The aim of the NYPB is to offer young pipers and drummers an opportunity to meet, perform and learn together. This is achieved through the learning of a joint concert programme which is performed in a different venue each year. The concert programme of pipe band music receives full backing from keyboards, drum kit, bass guitar, acoustic guitar.
The concert is also enhanced by Irish and Scottish dancing as well as some Irish Traditional music performed by members of the Youth Pipe Band.
Each member of the NYPB wears his/her own band kilt with an NYPB polo shirt. There is an 'A' band and a 'B' band. The 'A' band performs all the concert material while the 'B' band caters for less advanced players.
Branches of the NYPB have been set up in Donegal, Tralee, Cork, Limerick, Dublin, and in the South East. Most of the tuition takes place in the regions and in the local band halls around the country.
Unlike the Scottish National Youth Pipe Band which caters for the top solo and band players, the Irish National Youth Pipe Band is more geared towards young players of all abilities.
The emphasis in the band is about participation and performance rather than on selection and performance.
The Musical Director of the band is Brian MacMahon from New Ross, County Wexford and Brian is assisted by a panel of piping and drumming instructors (including local man Alen Vance from the Letterkenny and District Pipe Band) who help teaching the programme and they assist in putting the performance together on the night.
