A Swinging Good Time at An Grianán!
Performing home-grown big band versions of blues, jazz and rock classics, the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra will banish those recession blues with a night of finger-snapping, foot-tapping, hip-swaying jazz for all the family.
This 17 piece big band features a smoking hot line up of some of Ireland’s leading jazz musicians.
They take their big band sound all the way to Letterkenny when they play An Grianan Theatre for the first time on Fri 1 October.
Led by the legendary Ciaran Wilde, four trumpets, four trombones, and five saxophones will blow your mind playing big band music from the ‘40s and ‘50s along with some more modern bombastic tunes to mix it up.
The orchestra is made up of professional full-time musicians who represent some of the finest in Europe including the likes of Sketches of Now guitarist Hugh Buckley, leader of his piano trio, Phil Ware and Nick Roth, band leader of Klezmer group Yurodny. All musicians are prominent in both Irish and international scenes.
As individual session musicians members have performed and recorded with the likes of U2, Oasis, Amy Winehouse, Van Morrison, The RTE National Symphony and RTE Concert Orchestras, movie soundtracks and with top visiting artists like Dave Liebman, John Faddis, and Bobby Watson.
There’s nothing quite like a big band, and there’s no big band quite like the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra!
