Declan O'Rourke used to be one of Ireland's best kept secrets, but rave reviews for his debut album Since Kyabram, a growing international fan base and an enviable collection of eminent devotees including Paul Weller, Snow Patrol and Kate Rusby, are rapidly changing that.
Declan O'Rourke began his career on the Dublin singer-songwriter circuit in 2000. In 2004 he released his first album, Since Kyabram, a small, independent Irish record label. The title was a reference to his adolescent years spent in Australia where he was given his first guitar by a priest in the provincial Victorian town Kyabram.
After debuting at fifth position in the Irish charts, it very soon achieved Gold, Platinum and then double-Platinum status. Even now, almost four years after its release, it continues to sell steadily.
“Singing in a velvet-tinged bartitone with a killer falsetto….it’s a rare gift that his music can bear comparison with so many classic era troubadours, Fred Neil, Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen while still sounding so completely original” Nigel Williamson, Uncut
