Improv comedy superstar Jason Byrne returns to An Grianán Theatre following another sellout run at the world's biggest arts festival, the Edinburgh Fringe.
Famed for his free wheeling, improvised comedy you can never predict just what Jason is going get up, for example: "One of the great moments that stands out in the year, 2002 or so, was when a woman left the venue to go to the loo. I said to the audience, “Let’s hide”, they thought I was joking but I said,“No, let’s really do it.” So I got 169 people to leave the venue via the exit door by the stage, and we all hid there while we watched the woman come back from the toilet. She came back and sat down, and we all jumped out and shouted, “Surprise!”
One of the comedy kings of Edinburgh, his show this year was seen by a staggering 28,000 people. He has been one of the fastest selling performers at the last 13 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, where his sell out shows have attracted Best Headliner Chortle Award in 2007, a nomination for 1998 Perrier Newcomer Award, and then a much revered Perrier Award Nomination for his outstanding 2001 show. He was also winner for the 2004 Forth One Fringe Award and continues to play to packed houses throughout Ireland & the UK.
On TV he is the genius behind Anonymous, RTE2's hit show which sees heavily disguised celebrities accost members of the general public and fellow showbiz cohorts all under Jason's subversive direction. He is currently filming a new show, The Byrne Identity, to be shown on RTE later this year.
