if.comeddie Award Winner 2006
Often lauded by Tommy Tiernan as his favourite comedian, last time Phil Nichol was here he told us that many years ago in Edinburgh Tommy had approached him to be half of a double act.
'We are so similar in what we like and our comedy style, and of course we both had the beards at the time, so we'd have been a natural pairing', added Phil. Then Tommy won the Perrier and the rest as they say...
Phil's show is very high energy from the off and while some of it may be controversial, like Tommy's, it's only there to make you think, and laugh!
“After winning the If.commedies Award last year with The Naked Racist, you might have imagined him finding it hard to match his previous form. Yet, this show was absolutely outstanding.” The Stage
Hiro Worship
Nothing to do with Heroes’ Hiro, Phil’s latest show tells what he claims is the true and unembellished story of a Japanese man called Hiro who he befriends at a gig and puts up for a month in his north London home.
Hiro turns out to be an obsessive fan of the Rolling Stones who likes nothing more than to start his day by playing their greatest hits on Phil’s electric guitar from 6.30am every morning, much to the chagrin of Phil’s housemates. Phil recounts his many adventures with Hiro as well as his efforts to persuade his houseguest to leave including a hilarious incident where they stake out Mick Jagger’s mansion.
Last year Phil finished his first ever gig with us by running through the auditorium naked, accompanied by his two band members, also naked. While we can’t guarantee more nakedness this time around (wouldn’t bet against it either) what we can promise is stand up comedy at its rawest, funniest and most outrageous.
Phil’s band will be back again this year providing some Stones’ music to keep the gig rocking!
“A stream of inspired lunacy, a roller coaster ride, full of violent, unexpected twists and delivered at breakneck pace” The Stage
“The face of an angel, the tongue of a whore and the energy of a toddler on an Iron–Bru binge.” The Times
