With its exotic Japanese setting and its hilarious plot, The Mikado is a musical that will appeal to all. Amongst its many delightful songs is the classic 'Three Little Maids From School Are We'.
Widely regarded as Gilbert and Sullivan's finest work, this musical comedy has remained a perennial favourite with theatre-goers since it was first performed in London in 1885.
The Mikado is the tale of a wandering minstrel whose misfortune it is to fall in love with the beautiful ward of the Lord High Executioner of Titipu.
This is a musical that has it all! Romance, comedy, beautiful music, gorgeous costumes and a great cast of colourful characters including an unscrupulous politician, a useless Executioner and a spurned Noblewoman.
This will be the first time a Gilbert and Sullivan show has been performed at An Grianán and the Letterkenny Musical Society have assembled a formidable cast for the occasion, led by renowned soprano Ann Jennings.
The principals are:
Yum Yum - Ann Jennings, a world famous soprano with a wicked wit
Pitti-Sing - Nicola McBride, star of many previous productions
Peep-Bo - Rachel Hogg, star of last year’s ‘Oklahoma!’
Nanki-Poo - Declan Nee, one of our finest and most experienced singers
Poohbah - Donal Kavanagh, on a break from reading the news on Highland
Pish Tush - John Campbell, a new boy with a lovely voice
Koko - Billy Patterson, a legend in his own bathroom
Katisha - Margaret Mitchell, her voice can tug at the heartstrings
The Mikado - Gareth Devine, a fine voice on loan from Strabane
Director: Billy Patterson
No spring season at An Grianán would be complete without the Letterkenny Musical Society. Since their first production with us in 2000 (Jesus Christ Superstar) their name has become synonymous with excellence and high entertainment as they have presented musical classic after musical classic – Oliver!, Showboat, My Fair Lady, Annie Get Your Gun, The Sound of Music, The King and I and last year's Oklahoma.
Their shows are always hugely popular and we strongly advise early booking.
