Frequently described as the “Voice of Ireland” Fleming is one of Ireland’s top entertainers and has had a hugely successful career over the past 15 years. His new show is inspired by his latest CD 'A Journey Home', a collection of Irish material from the old tunes to modern day classics sung with the passion and style that Tommy has become renowned for.
The CD features 22 songs, many of which will be performed at the show. From favourites such as Carrickfergus and Raglan Road to modern day classics such as U2's All I Want Is You, what the songs all have in common is that they all have a story to tell about the journeys of life, from stories of those that emigrated and still do to the emotional journeys life takes us on.
Tommy has endured his own difficult journey as several years ago he suffered a broken neck in a serious car accident several years ago, leaving his career in jeopardy. As he recovered slowly in hospital from his painful injuries, it seemed that all he had achieved in a carefully nourished singing career was in danger of being lost.
Looking back at that fragile time, the now fully recovered Tommy, describes that dark period as “scary, the worst time of my life”. Life and music is good for 34-year-old Tommy now. He has bounced back to rude good health and his fine voice seems fuller, more haunting, than ever.
If there were any doubts about his recovery, these were well and truly banished in November 2002 with the long awaited release of “Tommy Fleming: The Collection”. Since then his career has gone on from strength to strength - He had the biggest selling album in Ireland in 2005/06 “The Voice of Hope” and followed it with another huge success in 2006 with his studio Album “A Life like Mine”.
