Many Young Men of Twenty, a musical play, deals with emigration and the lack of jobs at home that forced people to leave their native Ireland for England. It describes the emigrants' longing for home - 'Everyone is lonesome leaving home' - their annual homecomings and their return to jobs and places they disliked - 'back to their night shifts, an' filthy digs...with their long faces leanin' out o' the carriage windows with the thoughts of what's waitin' over'.
Not an out and out musical as such but a play with some song and musical accompaniment including tin whistle and melodeon.
Sean McCormack, most recently seen at An Grianán in The O'Neill, directs this production from one of Ireland's most respected drama companies. Established more that fifty years ago, the Lifford Players are regulars on the All Ireland Drama circuit, winning the final on several occasions. Their recent plays at An Grianán include 12 Angry Men and Moonshine.
