Brush up on the Bard
Most run in fear when they hear the word Shakespeare. For many his work was an inescapable fact of the school curriculum and not one, which is always remembered fondly. An Grianán Theatre aims to change that perception through a special workshop hosted by David Grant on Saturday, 8th March 12pm – 4pm, suitable for persons aged sixteen plus.
This developmental workshop aims to give participants a fuller appreciation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream as a dramatic text and to give a greater understanding of its rhythm, language, characters and themes. No prior knowledge of the play is necessary.
A Midsummer Night's Dream is the chosen text for this workshop as it will be An Grianán Theatre’s in-house production for and in association with the Earagail Arts Festival 2008. This workshop is an opportunity to work on one of Shakespeare’s most popular works with David Grant, a professional director with many years experience in producing Shakespeare’s plays for the stage.
The workshop is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in drama or performing to extend their experience and improve their stagecraft. Participation in the workshop is also an opportunity to get a taster of the performing experience and to express any interest that you might have in taking part in the full production when it is staged for the Earagail Arts Festival in early July.

David Grant has enjoyed a varied career in theatre throughout Ireland as critic, teacher and director. He has been Managing Editor of Theatre Ireland magazine, Programme Director of the Dublin Theatre Festival and Artistic Director of the Lyric Theatre, Belfast and has directed more than a hundred theatre productions ranging from Shakespeare to new and devised work. He now lectures in drama at Queen's University, Belfast.
